If you love gardening and being outside, the house is a better bet than the condo. You share walls and sometimes outdoor space when living in a condo. With a house you own the land and buildings. I have lived in 6 houses and 2 condos in my life and the only advantage to the condo is you do not have yard work, etc. - but there are usually condo fees to pay each month.
Go with the house - enjoy the outside and pay someone to mow, etc.
Good luck
Anytime you buy real estate, many factors come into play as far as the best investment decision goes. In general, however, single family homes tend to be a better investment than townhouses because there is a stronger demand for them. Also, your comment about gardening would lead me to suggest a single family home since most townhouses have very limited grounds. Also, most townhouse community have very strict covenants that may be more restrictive than you would like. A final point, even though the price may be the same, check out the monthly or annual homeowners association fees which can be very expensive, especially in townhouse or condominium communities.
